Allan Gray takes top spot in Aussie equity fund rankings

Allan GrayDeep-value fund managers Allan Gray was the top performing Australian equity fund in 2016, according to financial research firm Mercer.

Allan Gray's 38.1 per cent return, capped off by an 8.8 per cent gain in December put it comfortably in top spot, ahead of quantitative fund Dimensional Advisors, which returned 32.6 per cent and Lazard Equities which gained 27.6 per cent for the year. Martin Currie Australia ranked fifth with a 22.3 per cent gain.
